Industry in crisis: appeal to the provincial government

Industry in Styria is still deep in recession. The captains of industry are now hoping that the new provincial government will help to reverse the trend - the pressure on political decision-makers is increasing.

Styrian industry has been staggering through a recession for more than two years, with insolvencies and waves of redundancies regularly making the headlines. The automotive giant Magna, one of the country's largest employers, is representative of the tense situation. In April, 500 employees had to leave the Graz plant due to the poor order situation, and in September, 200 jobs were cut at Magna Powertrain in Lannach.
