Brazen thief

Bold domestic worker stole gold and jewelry

A brazen theft took place on Tuesday in the district of Hermagor: an 84-year-old woman discovered her maid hiding coins in her bag. The officers were later able to discover valuables amounting to several thousand euros - arrest. 

An 84-year-old woman could not believe her eyes when she witnessed a theft in her own home on Tuesday afternoon. The homeowner, who lives with her brother, who is in need of care, discovered her 53-year-old maid taking coins belonging to the family into her room. The sprightly 84-year-old immediately informed the police.  

The officers found jewelry, gold, silver coins, clothing and food worth several thousand euros in the 53-year-old Bulgarian woman's bag, who had been working for the elderly woman for less than two weeks.

The brazen thief wanted to travel back to her home country that day, which the police prevented: the domestic worker was arrested and questioned at the police station - but she did not confess. The Federal Office for Immigration and Asylum ordered her arrest under immigration law. The 53-year-old was transferred to the Villach police detention center.
