Two Upper Austrians at the “Rally of the Crazy”

Two brothers from Unterach am Attersee recently survived a wild adventure in Mexico. They dared to take part in the dreaded "La Carrera Panamericana" rally, which is notorious for its serious accidents. The Upper Austrians not only survived this venture unharmed, but even made it onto the podium.

The brothers Augustin (59) and Hubert (62) Perner from Unterach am Attersee have recently been regarded as heroes in Mexico. The duo took second place in one of the most dangerous, crazy and toughest rallies in the world, the "La Carrera Panamericana".

They drove 4500 kilometers in a rented "Falcon Super Sprint" (built in 1965) for seven days against 45 competitors through jungles, deserts and mountain landscapes. Almost every year, there are fatalities and serious injuries. This year, too, there were numerous serious accidents.

The brothers were celebrated locally as the "Crazy Perner Brothers" for their spectacular riding style. Their conclusion: "A special experience that cannot be put into words. We are glad that we were able to return to Austria safe and sound!"
