The land of energy communities

There are now 220 renewable energy communities in Carinthia, benefiting citizens and an increasing number of companies.

Energy communities (EG) make it possible to produce, store, consume or sell energy collectively across property boundaries. This allows citizens in particular to save money and contribute to the environment. More and more such associations are being founded in Carinthia and the Chamber of Commerce is now also recognizing their potential.

"Energy communities generally supply significantly cheaper electricity. This is not only interesting for private individuals, but also for companies," said the WK Kärnten, which organized an event as part of its energy policy talks entitled "Energiewende Selbstgemacht! Renewable energy communities as a success model for the economy", which invited experts to inform entrepreneurs about the legal requirements, establishment, organization and tax treatment of such energy communities.

Energy communities offer the opportunity for self-help and make companies less dependent on market fluctuations.

"EG make companies more independent of the often unpredictable energy markets and high prices. Our companies have suffered greatly in recent months. However, the challenges remain," says Hannes Schwinger, WK specialist group chairman for engineering firms.

Benjamin Kuschnig from Solar Union Austria supports companies and citizens in this promising area.
