Elon Musk sued in key swing state

Major Trump donor Elon Musk has been sued over his million-dollar lottery in the US presidential election campaign. Philadelphia District Attorney Larry Krasner filed the lawsuit in Pennsylvania state court on Monday to stop the campaign.

It is directed against the America PAC lobby group founded by Musk to support Trump and against the million-dollar lottery organized by Musk. The tech entrepreneur wants to use this to mobilize Trump's voters.

"The Philadelphia District Attorney is charged with protecting the public from public nuisances and unfair trade practices, including illegal lotteries," Krasner said in a statement. He is also tasked with "protecting the public from interference with the integrity of elections".

A week and a half ago, Musk announced in Pennsylvania that he would raffle off one million dollars every day among those who have signed a conservative petition and are registered as voters in one of the key US states.

The prospect of a million dollars is intended to mobilize voters who might vote for Trump - and would otherwise have stayed at home. As a first step, the US Department of Justice sent a warning letter to Musk's America PAC that this campaign may be illegal.
