Rioters cause Stockholm derby to be interrupted

The Stockholm soccer derby between Hammarby and Djurgardens has been interrupted after fan riots. Hammarby were leading 2-0 with about 15 minutes to go when pyrotechnics were fired and firecrackers set off from the visitors' block. 

After a 50-minute break, the police ordered the spectators to leave the stadium. The match was then to be played to a close without the public - but this will not happen until Monday.

Police take action
The police announced that they had broken up the public event in the Tele2 Arena in a very unusual move. In doing so, they withdrew permission for the match to be played in front of spectators. Other measures were insufficient "because the organizer was not in a position to guarantee order and security", the statement said.

However, numerous Djurgardens fans refused to clear the stands. In the end, it was decided to continue the match on Monday at 2 p.m. with the fans excluded.

All derbies lost so far
There had already been fears that the visitors' supporters might riot if their team was behind. The traditional club is in third place in the table, but has lost all three derbies against Hammarby and AIK Stockholm so far this season.
