Reader delivered the “Kärntner Krone” herself

For the 40th birthday of the Kärntner Krone, there are anniversary cakes for loyal readers. The Furlan family from Treffen have also been receiving the "Kärntner Krone" for 40 years and were delighted to receive a cake.

When I wasn't yet retired, I worked in the post office here in the village for years," says Frieda Petscher over a coffee in her house in Äußere Einöde. Back then, the "Krone" was still delivered to our readers by post. The sprightly woman from Upper Carinthia brought the newspaper to her neighbors, sometimes even on foot, as she reports. She even had to prove to the post office that she could cope with the large van and drive up. "I tell you, that was harder than the driving test itself!" laughs Petscher.

A piece of cake for neighbors
Because her daughter lives in Vorarlberg, at least her neighbors can enjoy a piece of the "Krone" birthday cake she brought with her. The "Krone" has also been a fixture in the Furlan household in Treffen for 40 years. "I love the recipes in the 'Krone bunt'. I even cut them out and collect them in a folder to cook from," says Mrs. Furlan, who is passionate about her vegetable and herb garden.

The couple also like to divide up the puzzle side of things: "I do the Sudoku, my wife prefers the crossword puzzle," reveals Rainer Furlan. The couple also agree on one thing: "Our grandson loves using public transport - climate protection is very important to him. So it's really handy when we can read in the 'Krone' how to get where we need to go by bus and train."
