Art and crafts in Bad Goisern and Hallstatt

Art and crafts come very close together in Bad Goisern and experience a new upswing with the Capital of Culture. There are open studios at the Scala crafts house at the weekend and many guest artists are there. There is also a new sculpture park created by young sculptors from Hallstatt and Munich.

Since 2008, the Scala craft house has been housed in Neuwildenstein Castle. There are workshops and studios here. This year, in the Capital of Culture year, it is receiving a particularly large number of new impulses for regional development, also because many international craftspeople are guests.

"This weekend is the crowning glory of an intensive year," says Dietmar Laimer-Hubmann, Scala project manager. Works are presented that were created during the artists' guest residencies in Goisern.

Watching craftsmen up close
There will be presentations, networking and a bus trip to other studios in the Salzkammergut.

Those interested in craftsmanship in practice can watch master turner Pascal Oudet (FR), Japanese carpenter Sadatsugu Watanabe (JP), glass artist Rui Sasaki (JP) or American metal artists Rebekah Frank (US) and Donna E. Price (US) at work.

In addition, a sculpture park was recently opened outdoors, which will remain in place for at least a year. "One of the most sustainable Capital of Culture projects, that was important to us," says Laimer-Hubmann.

Around the Scala in Neuwildenstein Castle, 19 young sculptors from the BFS für Holzbildhauerhandwerk München and the FS für Bildhauerei Hallstatt have created wooden objects on the theme of "Connection". You will discover clear forms, but also playful and dreamy ones. Well worth a visit!
