NHL runner-up Edmonton starts the season with a thumping

Runner-up Edmonton started the NHL season with a bitter defeat on Wednesday (local time). The Stanley Cup finalists lost 6-0 to the Winnipeg Jets in their home opener.

Adam Lory opened the scoring in the 15th minute and the visitors were already five goals ahead after two thirds of the game. Mark Scheifele scored the final goal in the final period.

However, the Oilers had also started last season with a clear defeat. A year ago, they lost 1:8 to the Vancouver Canucks. The Oilers even lost ten of their first twelve games. In the end, however, the team still made it to the play-offs and the final series for the championship.
