Lateral entry as a career opportunity for Adam (24)

Adam is completing an apprenticeship as a surveying technician at voestalpine. In his second year of training as a surveying technician at the turnout plant in Wörth, the 24-year-old is proving that an apprenticeship also offers great opportunities on the second career path.

"After graduating from high school, I first worked in various jobs," says Adam, who was born in Hungary. "But when I moved to Austria and already spoke some German, I wanted to continue my education." He came across voestalpine through a job advertisement, applied and is currently completing his second year of training as a surveying technician at Weichenwerk Wörth, a joint venture between voestalpine Railway Systems and ÖBB Infrastruktur. As a market-leading specialist for railroad solutions, the company implements alignments and manufactures special turnouts.

Just right for Adam: "Mathematics was already my favorite subject in high school. It helps me to evaluate important data that we receive from the track," says Adam. "In addition to surveying technology, I would also like to take a closer look at route planning, i.e. the planning and construction of railroad lines. This is also part of our department."

Adam would also like to improve his German language skills with the B2 language certificate. "It's already going quite well, I'm just struggling with the dialect," he laughs.

Around 150 young professionals are being trained at the voestalpine sites in Lower Austria. There are around 20 apprenticeships to choose from.
