Crazy exit clause after injury drama

An injection of motivation on the way to his comeback: Marc Bernal, who suffered a serious knee injury at the end of August, can look forward to a new contract with FC Barcelona. This includes a crazy exit clause worth 500 (!) million euros.

The season had actually got off to a fantastic start for midfield jewel Bernal. The 17-year-old was integrated into the first team by coach Hansi Flick. On the first matchday of the new season, he made his competitive debut for the Catalans against Valencia. Flick included him in the starting eleven in each of the following matches.

Horror diagnosis
But then came the big shock! In the match against Rayo Vallecano, Bernal was injured in a tackle in stoppage time. He had to be carried off the pitch and Flick and his team were very worried.

A short time later, it was clear that Bernal had torn his cruciate ligament and would need an operation. He was expected to be out for six months, but it got worse: Bernal would be out for a whole year!

Unbelievable sum
A bitter break for the youngster, who can now look forward to some good news. His contract with FC Barcelona has been extended until 2026. His status as an U19 player will then end and he has the option to extend his contract for a further three years.

Incidentally, the buy-out clause has been set at 500 million euros - an incredible sum!
