When an employee of the locksmith service saw the 28-year-old on Saturday, the suspect was probably under the influence of drugs. The surprised employee managed to detain the 28-year-old and alert the police. They eventually discovered the 74-year-old's body and took the suspect into custody.

On Sunday, a judge ordered the young man to be remanded in custody. The background to the crime and the relationship between the two men were initially unclear.

According to the investigation, the fatal confrontation in the Kiel apartment probably took place on Friday evening or on Saturday night. As the front door was locked, the suspect was unable to leave the apartment on his own.
