A neighbor in the coastal town of Colònia de Sant Jordi heard screams on Wednesday evening and alerted the police, several regional newspapers reported. When the officers arrived at the affected country house, they discovered the body of the 74-year-old Swiss woman in a pool of blood. Her former son-in-law was the only other person in the house and was therefore arrested immediately.

The 47-year-old has a criminal record and is now sitting in a cell in a police station. He is to be brought before a magistrate.

Charge of violence
According to a media report, the victim's daughter had already separated from the man in June 2023 and reported him for violence. However, the Portuguese man had refused to move out of the house. He therefore lived with his ex-partner and her mother until the end.
