Apartment block evacuated

Plastic bowl on stove caught fire

The Dornbirn fire department deployed seven vehicles and 50 men to a fire in a block of flats at around 5 p.m. on Sunday. A bowl forgotten on the stove had caused a major fire there. 

The entire block of flats was evacuated before the firefighters had even found the cause of the fire. While the fire department was searching for the source of the fire, the tenant in whose apartment the kitchen utensils had gone up in flames came forward. 

With the help of the tenant, the firefighters were able to enter the smoke-filled rooms without too much effort. These were ventilated so that the apartment could be occupied again on Sunday evening. No one was injured.

In addition to the Dornbirn fire department, the rescue service with one vehicle and three people and the police with four vehicles and nine officers attended the scene.
