100,000 people in Klagenfurt are waiting for clean water

There is still no all-clear with regard to the drinking water in Klagenfurt, as those responsible are still searching for the cause. A village in the municipality of Magdalensberg is also affected. 

The supply of water in Klagenfurt's supermarkets is currently scarce. The all-clear can still not be given. As reported, limit values were exceeded at seven measuring points in the provincial capital on Friday. For more than 100,000 residents, this means that the water must be boiled for at least three minutes. 

Pipe network contaminated
The cause has still not been determined. Nor can the all-clear be given. "The response was swift. Water is a highly sensitive issue," emphasizes Mayor Christian Scheider. According to Stadtwerke board member Erwin Smole, the elevated tanks and springs are clean and the contamination is in the pipe network. "However, the exact cause is still unclear." All pipes are now to be flushed.

According to Stadtwerke, bacteria have now also been found in the municipality of Magdalensberg - in the village of Deinsdorf. 

City reorders more pallets of water
The city has responded to the high demand for water and is now also dispensing water at the trade fair parking lot. More pallets have been ordered, they say. Water is to be distributed there primarily for schools, organizations and clubs. The rush was already great shortly after the announcement. According to the city, the all-clear cannot be given until Thursday at the earliest.
