Shot during military exercise: case dropped

A female hunter (68) caused a stir when she felt "threatened" by a military exercise in Friesach (Carinthia) and therefore fired a warning shot. The investigation against her has now been dropped.

She had felt "threatened" by the German soldiers, the 68-year-old hunter told the police after the dangerous incident: she was on a high seat in the forest in Friesach last weekend - on Saturday night, to be precise. There she had discovered the German soldiers in camouflage clothing and fired a warning shot with live ammunition into the air.

The soldiers had been conducting an exercise together with members of the Austrian army - this had also been duly registered. After the incident, the woman was investigated on suspicion of making a dangerous threat. However, these investigations have now been dropped.

The public prosecutor's office confirms that in the woman's case, an "erroneous assumption of an unlawful situation" must be assumed. The fact that the hunter felt threatened is "understandable".

She herself had testified that she had assumed that the people in camouflage clothing were "terrorists". They had also not responded to her shouts.
