Female hunter (68) fired a shot during a military exercise

Last weekend, a dangerous incident occurred during a military exercise in a forest near Friesach (Carinthia). A 68-year-old female hunter suddenly fired a shot from her rifle because she felt threatened by people in camouflage clothing.

Law enforcement officers were called to the forest at around 9.30 p.m. on Friday. The 68-year-old had fired a shot with live ammunition - whether she had aimed near the military personnel or fired into the air was not yet clear and is the subject of an investigation.

Exercises will continue
On closer inspection, the reason for the threat was harmless: the people were soldiers from the hunting commando and a German special forces unit who were conducting an exercise. Michael Bauer confirmed this to the "Krone" newspaper. There is currently no further danger.

Weapons ban imposed
In any case, a temporary weapons ban has been imposed on the hunter. The exercise has been taking place in the district of St. Veit since last week.

The exercise had already been carried out several times in Carinthia and had also been duly reported by the army to the St. Veit district administration. According to Bauer, the planned exercises will continue until the end of the week.
