Apprentices start a new training year

The motivated young people stepped on the gas on day one and showed full commitment.

On Monday, 36 young applicants from all over Carinthia started their apprenticeships at the Kelag training center in St. Veit. It is striking that a particularly large number of young women have chosen this path this year. 

The future of energy is very much in vogue among young people. This is also reflected in the large number of young people who have applied for an apprenticeship at Kelag. On Monday, 36 young people from all over Carinthia started their first year of training. That is 20 percent more than two years ago.

I expect to learn and take away a lot from the three years of my apprenticeship. I already support a few online companies with marketing and copywriting.

A diverse group
The team of new apprentices consists of six female and 17 male electrical engineers, six female and one male office clerk, one female and two male operational logistics specialists, one female and one male structural draughtsman as well as two metal and mechanical engineering technicians.

Many female apprentices
"We are looking for skilled workers and are training some ourselves. Dual training is particularly important to us in order to provide the specialists of tomorrow with both theoretical technical knowledge and practical skills. The graduates of our own apprenticeship training are a mainstay of our company," emphasizes Michael Marketz, Managing Director of Kärnten Netz. The high proportion of female apprentices is particularly pleasing for those responsible. "Around 400 young people have applied to us this year. Every fourth new technical apprentice this year is female, which is an increase of 24 percent," summarizes Kelag CEO Danny Güthlein.

I'm sure it will be great. I've been interested in electrical engineering since I was a child and I like the fact that you can be out and about a lot.

The apprentices' previous qualifications also present a new picture. Many come as lateral entrants and are starting out at Kelag despite having already completed another apprenticeship.
