“It was a lot for me” – now relief for Mbappe

After scoring his first two league goals in a Champions League winner's shirt for Real Madrid, superstar Kylian Mbappe has expressed his relief. "Not scoring in three games is not a lot for many people. But it's a lot for me. The people at the club, the players and the fans have always been behind me. They trust me to score for this brand," said the French former world champion on Sunday evening.

Mbappe, who moved to Madrid from Paris Saint-Germain in the summer, scored both goals in the 2-0 win over Betis Sevilla. Mbappe scored his first goal in La Liga in the 67th minute after a fine assist from Federico Valverde. The 25-year-old scored goal number two from the penalty spot in the 75th minute.

Prior to that, the goalscorer had only scored for the Whites in the European Super Cup final against Atalanta Bergamo. ÖFB star David Alaba was still missing through injury.

Four points behind Barca
Mbappe's goals were also urgently needed to prevent the gap to arch-rivals FC Barcelona from widening. The Catalans have made a flawless start under former German national team coach Hansi Flick with four wins and are already four points ahead of Real.
