SUV tires damaged by climate activists

Climate activists apparently tampered with numerous parked vehicles in Vienna-Währing on Tuesday night. The group "Luftnot Kollektiv" explained in a post on the short message service X that they wanted to draw attention to the environmental impact of SUVs.

The regional police department confirmed that at least 25 cars had had their tires deflated. The "Luftnot Kollektiv", which according to X is probably part of the international "Tyre Extinguishers" movement, claimed to have deflated the tires of over 40 SUVs.

According to climate activists, SUVs are "unnecessary"
On Tuesday, the Vienna Provincial Police Directorate only spoke of 25 incidents in the Scheibenberg/Gersthof area. In a statement on X, the group explained that SUVs are particularly problematic due to their high pollutant emissions and the increased risk of accidents. The collective also described SUVs as "unnecessary" and an expression of "pure vanity".

Investigations underway
The investigation into the damage to property is ongoing, and the State Office for State Protection and Counter-Extremism (LSE) is also looking into possible links to other groups and connections with other possible incidents.
