Is the ban enough?
How to find peeping Tom cams in your Airbnb apartment
The Airbnb service has revolutionized vacation planning: It is often the first port of call for anyone looking for a vacation rental. But even though most users are satisfied with the platform, some have reported shocking experiences with hidden cameras. Airbnb responds with an official ban - but is that enough? Krone+ reveals how to play it safe and search for hidden peeping Tom cams.
Katelyn Boss (22) vented her anger about the apartment she booked via Airbnb in Florida on the social media service TikTok: the video, which has since been deleted, in which she showed a surveillance camera allegedly hidden in a light bulb and used by her Airbnb landlord to watch his guests in the bathroom, received more than twelve million clicks. A clear violation of the Airbnb terms of use.
Trust is good, control is better
Even though it remained unclear whether it was actually a surveillance camera or simply an empty lamp socket, the case - and other such social media reports - caused uncertainty among users. Airbnb has now responded - as reported by krone.at - with an official ban on security cameras inside the accommodation. Of course, it is doubtful that this will deter known peeping Toms and skeptics may still be on the lookout for hidden cameras when moving into their vacation apartment. Krone+ shows you how.
