The Weinviertel start-up "eFriends", based in Nappersdorf in the district of Hollabrunn, is aiming to become the leading platform for energy sharing throughout Europe. Members buy and sell energy there with just a few clicks.

Many people live in an apartment without their own solar system and still want to use green electricity. "Maybe the sun is shining in Styria at the moment and a PV owner is producing more electricity than they need," explain founders Matthias Katt and Klara Dimmel.

Sharing electricity with "friends" via the app
Clean electricity from a PV system, a hydroelectric power plant or a biogas plant can be obtained via the app - with just a few clicks. Simply connect to the community and share electricity with one of the now 2,500 "eFriends".

This allows PV systems to be used more efficiently and surplus energy to be passed on to other households or companies, explain the managing directors. Large companies are also involved, such as the Bonnleiten biogas plant in the district of St. Pölten.
