Surprising diagnosis
“I thought men don’t get breast cancer”
Slight pain, a small lump and a deformed nipple - these signs led Franz Wandl from Lower Austria to see a doctor after some deliberation. The diagnosis was, surprisingly for him, breast cancer! Not an impossibility, given that one to two percent of all new cases are men.
"I had already felt a tiny lump in my left breast years before and thought nothing more of it. When I started experiencing slight pain and the nipple became deformed, I went to my GP in June 2016," explains Franz Wandl from St. Valentin in Lower Austria. Little did he know that he would soon be diagnosed with breast cancer and that many treatments would determine his next few years. How he fought against it and what wonderful event awaited him as a "reward".
