Declining sales: the Nintendo Switch is weakening

Customers are already waiting for the successor model: Nintendo is struggling with falling sales of its aging Switch games console and a slump in profits.

The Japanese electronics company wants to announce its successor in the current financial year, which is why customers are now holding back on buying the eight-year-old version of the console.

In the first quarter, Nintendo ultimately sold 2.1 million units, only around half of the sales in the same quarter of the previous year. The operating profit plummeted by 71 percent to 54.5 billion yen (335 million euros).

Nintendo plans to launch two new games this year with "The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom" and "Mario & Luigi: Brothership" - rather few. Last year, Nintendo made a good profit from the "Super Mario Bros" movie. A new "Super Mario" film is not due to be released in cinemas until April 2026.
