Major events write their very own curious stories. This is how a man in colorful swimming trunks became a celebrated Olympic hero. A video of the curious scene at the swimming competition went viral.

What happened? In the first preliminary heat of the women's 100-metre breaststroke, a mysterious object sank to the bottom of the pool shortly before the start. A man in colorful swimming trunks then jumped into the water, fished a swimming cap out of the pool, held it up like a trophy and celebrated.

Around 17,000 fans cheered and applauded the "swimming trunks man". After a short delay, the competition could begin.
