Pupil killed schoolgirl (18) in Baden-Württemberg

In the German state of Baden-Württemberg, a pupil allegedly murdered a schoolmate (both 18) on the grounds of a grammar school on Thursday morning. According to the police, the young man initially fled, but was arrested shortly after 1pm.

The crime took place at around 10.20 am at a school in Sankt Leon-Rot. The Mannheim police reported on Platform X on Thursday afternoon that the schoolgirl had not survived the act of violence and that the suspect was still on the run. There had previously been talk of a woman suffering serious injuries. Rescue workers had tried to resuscitate her at the school - but to no avail.

High school evacuated
The perpetrator and the adult pupil are likely to have known each other, as the police assume a personal motive. The grammar school concerned was evacuated and the pupils were looked after at a collection point. 
Emergency pastoral workers were present at the scene.

By midday on Thursday, 15 to 20 police vehicles, the criminal investigation department and the fire department were still at the scene. An intensive search was carried out for the suspect, who was finally arrested shortly after 1 pm.

Not an isolated incident
Among other things, the crime is reminiscent of another act of violence in Offenburg last November. Back then, a 15-year-old shot and killed a peer at a special needs school. The pupil had entered his classroom and shot the 15-year-old victim in the back of the head with a handgun.
