Slovakia: Thunderstorm devastates festival site

A thunderstorm has devastated the grounds of an open-air festival in Trenčín, Slovakia. The emergency services took ten people to nearby hospitals, as the control center announced in the evening. They suffered minor injuries to their heads and upper limbs, among other things.

According to the TASR agency, a large tent collapsed during the thunderstorm with strong gusts of wind, and several smaller ones were blown over or damaged. The program was interrupted. At times, the electricity had to be switched off on the site. The police, fire department and rescue services were deployed on a large scale.

Surprised by thunderstorms
The "Pohoda" (coziness or comfort) festival took place on the airport grounds in Trenčín. Families with children were also there. When the thunderstorm broke out, the Czech rock band "Pražský výběr" (Prague Selection) was playing on the main stage.

An evacuation center for festival visitors was set up in a sports hall. It was still unclear whether the festival could continue on Saturday.

Doomsday mood in Slovakia:

Only on Thursday, two people had died in a mudslide in a mountain valley in Slovakia. Thunderstorms with heavy rain also caused problems in the neighboring Czech Republic. Fallen trees brought rail traffic to a standstill in numerous places on Friday.

In Krahulčí near Telč in South Bohemia, the dyke of a fish pond broke and cellars were flooded. A motorcyclist fell over a tree on the road near Brno. At a campsite in South Moravia, a man was injured when a tree fell on two cars and a tent.
