AfD leader: “I’m keeping my fingers crossed for Donald Trump”

The right-wing populist Alternative for Germany has one wish with regard to the US presidential elections: Donald Trump should replace incumbent Joe Biden.

Not least because of the 81-year-old head of state's recent confused and helpless appearances, AfD leader Alice Weidel believes that Biden is "obviously not in control of his mental powers". He should therefore no longer remain president. "That's not acceptable at all", Weidel stated in a ZDF summer interview on Sunday.

According to her own statements, the German politician is rooting for Trump. In addition to the health aspect, the war in Ukraine also plays a role. Trump has promised to end it by linking financial support for Kiev to President Volodymyr Zelensky's willingness to negotiate with the enemy. "And I believe that he is keeping his word."

"US election is a disaster"
In the ZDF program "Berlin direkt", however, Weidel expressed his dissatisfaction with the entire US election campaign and the candidates standing for election. "In my view, the election campaign in the US is a disaster," she said. "I would have liked to see completely different candidates running."
