87-year-old drunk driver continued driving after accident

On Saturday afternoon, the car of an 87-year-old in Graz-Gries collided with that of a 30-year-old. But instead of stopping, the pensioner committed a hit-and-run and was only stopped at his front door. It turned out that the 87-year-old had been under the influence of alcohol - he was now classified as unfit to drive.

Strange scenes unfolded in the Gries district of Graz on Saturday afternoon: An 87-year-old touched the car of a 30-year-old man from Graz shortly before 3.00 pm. The latter sustained minor injuries, but the pensioner simply drove on without stopping.

Hit and run to the front door
The 30-year-old then decided to follow him and informed the police. He briefly managed to stop the driver, but shortly afterwards the suspect continued his journey. Officers were only able to stop him in front of his home.

Determined to be unfit to drive
He appeared to be clearly intoxicated, although an alcohol test was not possible due to health problems. He was presented to the police doctor - and was classified as unfit to drive.
