The gastroenteritis wave in Torri del Benaco on the eastern shore of Lake Garda continues to cause problems. More than a thousand cases have now been reported. Those affected have complained of nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. The population is still being supplied with bottled water and additional water analysis results are still pending.

Preliminary tests of the latest water samples from the Torri del Benaco water network showed negative results, the company "Azienda Gardesana Servizi" (AGS) announced on Monday. This company is responsible for managing the water pipes in the municipality. Nevertheless, the all-clear has not been given in the vacation resort.

Increased chlorination in the network
Water samples taken last Friday and examined at an institute in Brescia were found to contain norovirus in some samples. As a result, AGS has increased chlorination in the network.

On Sunday, new samples were taken at various points in the Torri del Benaco water network to detect viruses, all of which produced negative results, meaning that the presence of noroviruses and enteroviruses could be ruled out.

However, the health authorities have announced that comprehensive testing will continue over the next few days, both in Torri del Benaco and in the neighboring municipalities.
