What vacationers in Croatia currently have to expect

Are you planning a vacation in Croatia this summer and worried about stories of "sea snot," traffic jams, and rising prices? Krone+ visited popular vacation spots and knows what travelers can expect. With a few tricks, your trip will remain a dream vacation.

The Croatian Tourist Board in Vienna is expecting a "very good" season in 2024 and (even) more guests from Austria. It could even be a record year, as by the end of May there had already been a 12 percent increase in guest arrivals and a six percent increase in overnight stays. It's no surprise that Croatia, along with Italy, is the most popular travel destination for Austrians: it offers access to the Adriatic Sea and can be reached within a few hours' drive.

At a time when long-distance travel is no longer affordable for many, these are two important points: ÖAMTC travel monitoring shows that 60 percent of those surveyed want a vacation by the water this year. Families in particular prefer to travel in their own cars (82 percent). And that's where the trouble starts for many: endless traffic jams that cause so much stress that you need your vacation even more urgently afterwards.
