Father killed at wedding: Verdict now confirmed!

Flying fists ended in drama last year in Bad Häring, Tyrol (Kufstein district): after a 32-year-old man punched his father (63) at a wedding party, the latter died in hospital. The Higher Regional Court has now confirmed the verdict against the son.

After years of "radio silence", in June 2023 a then 32-year-old met his father (63) at his sister's wedding reception in Bad Häring. The son struck during the argument and his father died in hospital.

My client showed remorse at the trial in November and is already facing the ruins of his existence.

Assault resulting in death
In November, the 32-year-old was sentenced to four years in prison for assault resulting in death, but appealed. "My client showed remorse at the trial in November and is facing the ruins of his existence anyway," argued his defense lawyer at the appeal hearing. The man - who was under the considerable influence of alcohol at the time - was therefore also "sufficiently punished" with a partial prison sentence or the minimum sentence of two years.

"Mitigating factors already taken into account"
The Higher Regional Court took a different view. The grounds for mitigation had already been sufficiently taken into account at the main hearing. With a sentence of up to 15 years, there was no more leeway, especially as the sentence at the time was already "in the lowest range."
