Two years after the hack: how the state protects itself

Sophisticated systems, external experts and employee checks - Carinthia wants to avoid the next major hacker attack with these measures, or at least keep the consequences within limits.

The hackers who paralyzed the state's IT systems with an encryption program at the end of May 2022 demanded a ransom of five million dollars. When this sum was not paid, vast amounts of data ended up on the darknet, including social security data and the passport of provincial councillor Sebastian Schuschnig.
