Summer in Salzburg is still a long time coming

On Sunday evening, fire departments were once again called out to deal with the storm: a front of heavy rain moved across the Lammertal valley. Abtenau was particularly affected. The outlook remains rather gloomy: sun-seekers will have to be patient. Weather experts are also expecting heavy rainfall over the next few days.

There was only a brief respite for the Abtenau fire department at the weekend: the next storm front passed over the municipality on Sunday evening. A squall threw a tree onto the Pass Gschütt road. The fire department arrived with a chainsaw. The high groundwater level caused further damage on the Radochsberg. Masses of water flooded three cellars. One house was threatened by a smaller mudslide, which the fire department was able to divert.

The clean-up work continued on Monday: The municipality had three excavators in action to clear mudslides. The next storm alarm was also sounded in Pfarrwerfen on Sunday.

Wet weather forecast for the next few days
And it continues to rain: large amounts of water are also expected in Salzburg over the next few days. "The main Alpine ridge and especially regions such as Lungau will be affected," says Maximilian Sterz, meteorologist at Geosphere Austria. Local flooding cannot be ruled out because the soil can hardly absorb any more liquid.
