Fire departments in action after heavy rain

Another heavy thunderstorm hit Burgenland on Saturday afternoon. The districts of Mattersburg and Eisenstadt were particularly hard hit. Hundreds of firefighters are currently working to pump out cellars in particular.

Heavy thunderstorms with localized heavy rain caused numerous fire department operations in northern Burgenland. According to the provincial safety center, there were a total of around 100 fire department operations, most of them in the district of Mattersburg, where volunteer fire departments were deployed in twelve municipalities. In the district of Eisenstadt, eight municipalities were affected by the severe storms. The emergency services are mainly occupied with pumping work, as numerous cellars were flooded. The clean-up work is still ongoing. 

Currently also thunderstorms in the south of the country
In the evening, thunderstorms also moved across central Burgenland and the south of the province. The thunderstorms are particularly strong in the Oberwart district and have already caused the first fire department operations. According to the Oberwart district fire brigade command, 14 alarms were raised within 15 minutes. Already at the beginning of the week, heavy rainfall caused numerous fire department operations in the south of the province.
