Refugee home fears for its future due to money worries

Campus Wienerwald has been confronted with many problems from the very beginning. From rumored grievances to a change of ownership of the former home for the blind, they are now facing strong headwinds from politicians.

"This is serious political abuse of office!" Christian Zeitz and Reinhard Fellner from the association "Initiative Soziales Österreich" (ISÖ) have clear words. The circumstances would force them to do so. The two have been running the Wienerwald Campus in Unterdambach in the district of St. Pölten - a privately run accommodation facility for refugees from Ukraine - for around 25 months.

As reported, he was repeatedly confronted with problems: From rumored grievances, to a change of ownership of the former home for the blind, to headwinds from politics.

After an attempted contract as a full-service home failed because no representative of Diakonie was willing to be placed in front of the home as a "watchdog", the home was confronted with financial problems. This is because, for reasons that have not yet been clarified, the basic care allowances have not been paid to the refugees.

They are therefore dependent on donations to cover the running costs. An eagerly organized party today from 5 p.m. at the Wienerwald Campus is intended to help them survive the month financially.
