The impact of the Trump verdict on the elections
The "guilty" verdict against Donald Trump in New York has his opponents rejoicing, while his supporters are convinced that their idol has been the victim of political persecution. It is not even clear yet what sentence - anything from a fine to a suspended sentence to prison is possible - Judge Juan Merchan will impose on July 11 in Manhattan and whether the verdict will be overturned by the appeals court at a later date.
What interests both political camps and the rest of the world far more, however, is what impact the conviction will have on the presidential elections. The first polls paint a mixed picture and give rise to the suspicion: was it much ado about nothing? In any case, a President Trump could have unpleasant consequences for the USA.
