Almost died! Hamilton’s hobby becomes his undoing

Lewis Hamilton is known for seeking an adrenaline rush outside of Formula 1 and pursuing dangerous hobbies. As he now reveals in a YouTube show, he narrowly escaped death while surfing.

The incident in which Hamilton feared for his life occurred in 2014 while surfing with professional surfer Kelly Slater in Hawaii. "There were 20-foot waves and Kelly said, 'There's no way you're getting out of there. You're crazy.' And when I tried to paddle in, I got sucked into this death zone," Hamilton said on the show "Hot Ones".

"It's all over"
"I got pulled in, turned around and saw a series of four waves coming at me," the 39-year-old looked back on the incident. "That was the signal for me: 'It's over. It's all over'."

Hamilton continued: "I could hear the wave breaking above me. My board was ripped away and broke in two. I came back up and gasped for air, but the next wave came, so I went back down. I almost ran out of air, I nearly drowned."

In the end, the seven-time Formula 1 world champion still had enough strength to save himself on land. A dramatic story ...
