Moped rider runs down police officer during a check

A 17-year-old from Villach wanted to escape on his moped. He even ran down a police officer. But the teenager's attempt to escape failed and he has to reckon with a hefty charge.

Officers from the provincial traffic department carried out traffic checks in Villach on Wednesday evening. The police also noticed a 17-year-old from Villach and his moped. However, when the teenager saw the officers, he accelerated and knocked down an officer.

After the 17-year-old and the officer fell to the ground, the teenager tried to flee on foot. However, the police officers were able to prevent this and the handcuffs clicked.

Fatigue and speeding moped
As the young man gave the officers the impression that he was no longer fit to drive, an alcohol test was carried out, which came back negative. The police officers then consolidated the 17-year-old with the medical officer, who diagnosed severe fatigue.

The officers were also able to establish that the moped was traveling at a maximum speed of 73 km/h instead of the permitted 45 km/h.

The teenager will be reported to the district authority and the public prosecutor's office in Klagenfurt for several offenses.
