Record number of overnight stays in Styria

Tourism professionals are delighted: with around 5.9 million overnight stays in the winter half-year 2023/24, Styrian tourism set a new record. The number rose by 2.5 percent in comparison. Guest arrivals in Styria between November 2023 and April 2024 also rose by four percent to almost 1.8 million.

According to Styria Tourism, visitors from Germany, Hungary, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, Poland, Slovakia and Slovenia recorded record overnight stays. Never before have there been 2.8 million overnight stays from local international markets (up 3.7 percent). "The vacation destination of Styria is becoming increasingly successful on international markets," concluded Barbara Eibinger-Miedl (ÖVP), State Councillor for Tourism.

The ratio of overnight stays by domestic (53.4 percent) and international guests (46.6 percent) has become more balanced. According to Michael Feiertag, Managing Director of Steirische Tourismus und Standortmarketing GmbH, the internationalization campaign is bearing fruit.

Schladming-Dachstein as a driving force
The Schladming-Dachstein region accounted for a third of overnight stays in Styria in winter 2023/24. The Gesäuse saw the largest percentage increase (13.3 percent).
