Tyrol: Hail causes 180,000 euros in damage

The first storms of the year also brought the first hail damage on Sunday evening. Rainfall is also expected in Tyrol in the coming days. 

Hail showers fell in parts of Tyrol on Sunday evening, causing considerable damage to agriculture. Vegetable crops and orchards, including netting, were particularly affected in the Innsbruck-Land district, as reported by the Austrian Hail Insurance on Monday.

Around 350 hectares of land were affected by the hail, with the insurance company estimating the damage at 180,000 euros. 

Few thunderstorms on Monday, rainy for the rest of the week
On Monday, the weather continued to be slightly foehn-like and sunny, although some spring clouds formed during the day. The GeoSphere Austria weather service announced that rain and thunderstorms were possible, but would remain the exception rather than the rule. Showers are most likely in the border region with Bavaria and in the eastern lowlands. 

By Tuesday at the latest, however, the fine weather should be over for the time being, with GeoSphere Austria predicting rain showers throughout Tyrol at least until Friday.
