Bavaria: Man seriously injured in acid attack

A stranger rang the doorbell of a 31-year-old man's apartment in an apartment building in Rosenheim, Germany, and threw an acid mixture in his face when he opened the door. This was reported on Friday by the Bavarian criminal investigation department.

The 31-year-old was so badly injured in the attack, which took place on Monday but only became public on Friday, particularly around his eyes, that he was taken to a specialist clinic in Munich. According to the police, the unidentified man was wearing a balaclava and fled in an unknown direction.

Motive for the crime still completely unclear
The Bavarian State Office of Criminal Investigation investigated the acidic liquid. The criminal investigation department has taken over the investigation. There was initially no information on a motive. Interviews with neighbors, investigations in the victim's surroundings and the examination of the liquid have not yet led to a complete clarification of the facts. The police are now appealing for witnesses.

The 31-year-old man from Rosenheim will in all likelihood suffer permanent damage to his eyes and body as a result of the attack and will have to undergo several operations, it is reported.
