Traditional butcher slips into bankruptcy

The company has already won awards at international competitions, and Gault & Millau celebrated the Pöll butcher's shop for bacon of the year. Now the company from Vorchdorf (Upper Austria) is struggling with financial problems. An application for reorganization has been filed with the regional court in Wels.

"We stand with our name for ecological and ethically responsible action to preserve the basis of life for people, animals and the environment," can be read on the website of Fleischerei Pöll, which filed an application for restructuring proceedings on Monday and is fighting for the continuation of the business, which was founded in 1955.

The reasons for the insolvency? Massive bad debts in Italy and in Germany, which put Fleischerei und Schlächterei Friedrich Pöll Ges.m.b.H. & Co KG in financial difficulties, as well as the increased raw material and energy prices, which made the situation more difficult.

25 employees affected
According to Creditreform, liabilities amount to around 3.7 million euros. This contrasts with assets amounting to 870,000 euros. The insolvency affects 25 employees.

A reorganization is planned, and appropriate restructuring measures should succeed in putting the traditional butcher, which is known for its sausage and ham specialities, on a stable footing.
