School bus crashes in Indonesia – eleven dead

At least eleven people have died and dozens more have been injured in an accident involving a school bus in Indonesia. According to a police spokesman on Sunday, nine of the fatalities were students who had just graduated from a secondary school.

The accident occurred on Saturday evening (local time) on the largest Indonesian island of Java. According to police, the bus was traveling from the town of Depok to the mountain town of Lembang, which is popular with tourists.

Driver lost control of the vehicle
According to reports, the bus driver suddenly lost control of the vehicle, tipped to the left and collided with a car and three motorcycles. In addition to the nine students, a teacher and a motorcyclist involved in the accident were also killed.

Fatal road accidents are common in Indonesia. The reasons include many outdated or poorly maintained vehicles and widespread disregard for traffic rules.

As recently as April, for example, twelve people died in a collision between a car, a bus and another car in the west of the island of Java.
