Equipment and consciousness lost in skiing accident

A devastating skiing accident on the Stubai Glacier in Tyrol on Friday: a 63-year-old German skier collided with a local man (37) on the piste. While the former lost all his equipment due to the force of the collision and was slightly injured, the 37-year-old was worse off: he lost consciousness and suffered serious injuries.

According to the police, the collision occurred on red slope no. 17, also known as the Daunfernerschuss. The German and the Austrian collided in a flatter section. Both crashed.

"As a result of the massive collision, the 63-year-old lost all his belongings such as skis, poles, goggles and helmet. The 37-year-old remained unconscious on the slope for a short time," said the police.

Emergency helicopter to the hospital
The local man suffered serious injuries and several bruises and was flown to Innsbruck Hospital by emergency helicopter. The German escaped with minor injuries and did not require medical treatment.
