Karner wants to deport offenders to Kosovo
The federal government wants to push ahead with plans to transfer convicted offenders from third countries to Kosovo to serve their sentences. Interior Minister Gerhard Karner (ÖVP) discussed this with the Danish Minister of Justice on Tuesday. Denmark is already working on a corresponding agreement.
In a bilateral meeting with Danish Minister Peter Hummelgaard, Karner enquired about Denmark's possibilities and plans. "Detention facilities like those planned by Denmark in Kosovo are also part of Federal Chancellor Karl Nehammer's Austrian plan," said Karner. Under the heading "Security", the Austrian plan presented in January also mentions the "transfer of convicted criminals from third countries to serve their sentences (...) in third countries".

Karner also discussed with Hummelgaard the possibilities for combating cybercrime and measures for monitoring messenger services, which the ÖVP demanded after the Ott case came to light.
Migration conference in Denmark
On Monday, Karner took part in a migration conference in Denmark to discuss cooperation with third countries. In the past, Karner had cited the British Rwanda model, which provides for the deportation of irregular migrants to the East African country of Rwanda, as an example. However, he demanded a change to the "EU regulations" for implementation in EU countries.
