Second League
St. Pölten’s negative streak continues
SKN St. Pölten's negative streak in the second division continued on Sunday. The Lower Austrians conceded a 2-1 home defeat against Stripfing at the end of the 25th round.
Timo Schmelzer (36') and Sanel Saljic (49') had given the visitors a 2-0 lead. Bernd Gschweidl only managed to equalize for SKN (54'), immediately after Stefan Rakowitz had been shown yellow (53').
Five defeats in six games
Philipp Semlic's team thus remain deep in crisis; it was their fifth defeat in the last six league games. St. Pölten are only in ninth place with 35 points. Stripfinger (30), on the other hand, picked up three important points in the relegation battle and now have a cushion of four points over 14th-placed Dornbirn in twelfth place.
However, the club still has to fear for its license; the Bundesliga protest committee will announce its decision on Monday. In addition to Stripfing (structural reasons), FC Dornbirn (financial) and DSV Leoben (financial) are also without a license for next season for the time being.
