"Poisoned" family
Were hash cookies the cause of the emergency?
Was it a naughty prank or was it deliberate cannabis use? Many people are asking themselves this question after the mysterious emergency involving a family from Obertrum. If marijuana use is to blame, then it can only have happened orally - experts agree on that.
Investigators do not want to go public with new information about the mysterious case of a family from Obertrum until the beginning of next week. The interrogations are underway and the State Office of Criminal Investigation is on the case.
Since the emergency call on Monday evening about symptoms of poisoning, countless questions have remained unanswered - as reported by the "Krone" newspaper.
Difficult to dose and no typical odor
The all-important question: How did the high THC concentration in the blood of four adults come about - and was that the reason for the emergency? For experts, one thing is obvious: the cannabis was probably taken orally, for example in cookies or oil.
"That's the only logical explanation for me," says a cannabis store owner from Salzburg, who wishes to remain anonymous. "Nausea, disorientation and that with a time delay, that speaks for it." Extracted cannabis is difficult to dose. And: it lacks the typical sweet smell.
If THC triggered the known situation, then it is probably just a prank or a massive misdosing.
Hannes Bacher, Ärztlicher Leiter Suchthilfe Salzburg
Hannes Bacher, psychiatrist and medical director of Addiction Help Salzburg, also has some sympathy for this theory: "One thing is clear, if THC triggered the known symptoms, then they couldn't have just smoked it." As an emergency physician, Bacher has already experienced similar situations.
Cannabis cookie incidents occur time and again at parties, for example. However, in his many years of experience as an emergency doctor, he has never seen an entire family affected. "That's really bizarre. It's probably just a malicious prank by a rascal or a hugely incorrect dose," says the doctor.
