It's a trick that many municipalities are already using to get their pigeon problem under control - now also the Vorarlberg town of Montfort.

They transmit diseases, multiply rapidly and turn many a window sill, attic or courtyard into feces-encrusted disgusting zones: Pigeons. So it's no wonder that they cause a lot of annoyance and disgust, especially in urban areas. On the other hand, pigeons are also animals that have feelings and needs - which is why animal welfare groups are also campaigning for the winged flappers. Wild birds are also protected.

In order to get the problem under control in an animal-friendly way, the town of Feldkirch has now opted for a strategy that has already brought good results in other municipalities: replacing the eggs.

Specifically, this involves the nests in the Feldkirch pigeon house, which is run by volunteers. So far, 569 pigeon eggs have already been replaced with plastic ones - as a result, the birds are breeding less and the population is being kept in check.

Volunteers are needed
As the pigeon house is also quite a lot of work apart from the egg exchange, volunteers are still needed. If you would like to get involved, please contact umwelt@feldkirch.at.
