On April 29, a special concert will take place at Vienna's Fluc Wanne: Sub_Bar is the name of the new innovative transnational event concept where deaf people, people with hearing impairments and hearing people come together to experience electronic music live through vibrations.

Imagine the feeling of entering a shared creative space where both hearing and deaf people can perceive, dream and collaborate. This was once the vision of the "Sub_Bar" project, which is now a reality and allows people with a wide range of hearing impairments to participate in contemporary music and club culture.

Vibrations replace sounds
Sub_Bar is an artistic environment based primarily on vibrations and sub-frequencies. During the concert, vibrations are generated that can be felt throughout the body to create unique and intense communal experiences. "We have taken inspiration from music education and multi-sensory research to establish a new creative language. It is incredible to see how the Academy participants evolve from class to class and create great pieces from low frequency vibrations. We are really looking forward to the concert," says Wen Liu, the organizer of the Vienna Sub_Bar Academy. The project is stopping off in Lisbon and Berlin this year. And on April 29, it's now Austria and Vienna's turn.

At the event in the Fluc Wanne, Alexander Regal and David Obermaier will perform pieces of music on an analog synthesizer and with a drum machine, among other things. Both artists have impaired hearing and therefore wear so-called feelbelts (vibrating belts), which allow them to hear the bass. Other top-class acts such as Adrián Artacho, Joel Diegert and who i why, one half of the electronic duo Laikka, will also be playing. The special thing about it: the music performed will take place at sub-frequencies below 150 Hertz: At these concerts, subwoofers transform the room into musical pressure spaces, creating a special opportunity for connection and interaction between the hearing and non-hearing.
